Comprehensive Permission-Based Physical Examination and Comfort Care
Patients are involved in every step of their own care. All patients receive a psychosocial and physical assessment prior to a complete physical examination. In an effort to respect the whole person, patients have control of this “living forensics” examination. Any evidence collected is permission-based, and reporting takes place only if the patient consents. Every effort is made to keep patients as comfortable and stable as possible. The minute a patient reports to the emergency department, she receives a private room and one on one supportive care through her stay.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
Providing a High Standard of Compassionate Care for Sexual Assault Survivors
University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program is driven by registered nurses who are specially trained to provide around the clock, first-response care to sexual assault survivors. Our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are experts at addressing the psychological and physical trauma associated with sexual assault, focusing strongly on patient dignity and compassionate support.
SANE Nurses Give Back to the Community
The registered nurses affiliated with University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program
are passionate about giving back to the community. They are members of the Sexual Assault Care Network, a group that meets regularly to conduct quality improvement analyses on every aspect of care for sexual assault survivors. As volunteers for the CARE project, conducted in cooperation with the YWCA, nurses work closely with Hamilton County to promote awareness in women with disabilities and who are deaf. And every year, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center SANE nurses participate in Take Back the Night, a campaign that supports strong advocacy for sexual assault prevention.
